“Art Terry, an American musician based in London, presents obscure black artists making leftfield soul, country, punk and folk music. It had me down a Spotify rabbit hole for hours, chasing more sounds from Dr Madd Vibe and Andre Lee.” The Guardian

It’s Tuesday at midnight and you’re tuned to Resonance FM. Your host is Art Terry. He kicks off the show with the rumbling and shrieking of Sun Ra’s I’ll Wait For You, Is Black Music’s uncompromising theme. Then Art plays piano and sings a song – possibly written earlier that day – about a protest march, a romance or a Black cultural icon.

Unscripted, loosely planned, velvety voiced and with a dash of technical hiccups, Is Black Music then takes you on an unexpected musical adventure, with Black folk, Black country and Black avant garde classical recordings.

These are the heroes of Black music that you (mostly) never heard of. Enjoy the journey.
